The Performers
Just like the meaning of their name, Kaha Trio is composed of three courageous and able musicians: Violinist Lorna Zhang, Cellist Damon Herlihy-O’Brien, and Pianist Madeleine Xiao. They met in 2021 through Chiron Music Academy as Chiron Lewis Eady Foundation Scholars and now are students at the University of Auckland, all studying a Bachelor of Music. Their coaches consist of several pre-eminent musicians around New Zealand and they have also received guidance from international artists and established ensembles.
Kaha Trio has a busy performance schedule and has been invited to perform all across the country and take part in music festivals. In early 2023 they were selected to attend the Adam Summer School for chamber music with the New Zealand String Quartet in Nelson. Later in October they will be involved with the At the World’s Edge Festival where they were all selected as emerging artists. They will be touring and performing alongside internationally renowned musicians in many ensembles and events.
The trio is also fortunate to be members of the Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra’s “Aspiring Musicians Program” where they are regularly invited to perform for events such as donor and sponsorship events, community concerts and the APO Friends ‘Meet the Artist’ events where in 2023 they performed for Geneva Lewis and Benson Wilson. Apart from their extensive experience in ensemble settings, all members are highly accomplished soloists in their respective instruments.
