Evelyne Bourton

Evelyne Bourton, is an Irish born soprano that immigrated to New Zealand as a child, she commenced her musical studies at 25 completing a Music degree with first class honors and a post-graduate diploma in linguistics.  During this beginning period of study Evelyne was a Sir Edmund Hilary Scholar, recipient of University blues and cultural awards, a member of the New Zealand Opera Chorus, gained places in National singing competitions and won the Hamilton Civic Choirs Artist Award and attended the New Zealand Opera School.  

In 2009 Evelyne created and produced her own Opera Company known as Opera Unleashed having a great success in producing the New Zealand premier of the Mozart Opera “La Finta Giardinera” that was critically and publically well received.  2010 saw Evelyne step back and help take care of her father who was battling terminal cancer and after his passing and with the help of the Major’s and Minors music school where she was the senior voice teacher she sent of audition material that got her into a Bel Canto School in Urbania Italy, where she met her now teacher Maestro William Matteuzzi.  

Scholarships from the Laurie Coon Foundation, Sir Donald McIntrye foundation and Hamilton City Council Arts Trust assisted in her continued studies in 2012-2013.  Evelyne has performed in concerts in Italy and from these has received invites and engagements that will see her returning to Italy this March where she will continue her work with Maestro Matteuzzi.
