Andrew Leathwick


Andrew Leathwick began piano lessons at the age of nine. In 2010, he began studying piano under Katherine Austin at the University of Waikato. While at the University of Waikato, Andrew won the University's annual concerto competition, and last year in March he won first prize, the audience choice award and junior jury prize at the 46th NZ National Concerto Competition. Recently he was named the Waikato University 2013 Cultural and Arts person of the year.

Andrew also has a passion for composing. In 2012, he won the acoustic section at the University of Waikato Lilburn Trust Composition Awards, and was also given the award for the best performance.  Andrew is currently on the Sir Edmund Hillary Scholarship Program, through which he receives coverage of his tuition costs, and is a recipient of the Dame Malvina Major Foundation Greenlea Trust Scholarship and Adastra Scholarship. In his spare time, Andrew enjoys unicycling, astronomy and studying Mandarin Chinese.
