Rafaella Garlick-Grice

Pianist Rafaella Garlick-Grice is an Honours student at Waikato University where she is a Hillary Scholar and recipient of an Adastra Foundation scholarship for 2010. She is studying performance piano with Katherine Austin. In 2009 on completion of her undergraduate degree at the NZ School of Music in Wellington, Rafaella was awarded the Beckway Pianoforte Performance Award. During 2009 Rafaella also undertook three months of international travel as a member of 'Duo Giocoso', winners of the esteemed Pettman/Royal OverseasLeague Chamber Music Scholarship for 2008. The Duo's itinerary included three weeks at music summer schools in Lugano, Switzerland and Dartington, England.

While in the UK 'Duo Giocoso' gave performances at St James Piccadilly, the National Portrait Gallery, St Martin in-the-Fields and the Edinburgh Fringe Concert series. This year, Rafaella was invited to give a solo recital in the Lewis Eady Charitable Trust Emerging Artist Series'. She won the University of Waikato Concerto Competition and toured with the Opus Orchestra performing Saint-Saens Piano ConcertoNo.5 in Hamilton, Tauranga and Rotorua. She has recently been awarded a Wallace Corporation University of Waikato Blues Award, an Arts Waikato Scholarship and the Lili Kraus Piano Award for excellence in piano performance.
