Ludwig Treviranus is currently teaching and performing in Wellington and Auckland. He holds a Doctorate of Music from Florida State University where he studied under Dr Read Gainsford. In the United States, he was successful in a number of competitions including a placing in the finals of the Beethoven International Piano Sonata Competition in Memphis, Tennessee (2009), and the Florida State Music School Chopin Competition (2010).
Prior to his studies in Florida, Ludwig was awarded a scholarship as a Maori/Pacific Island Scholar to complete his Masters Degree at the University of Auckland under the tutelage of Rae de Lisle.
In 2013, he developed an interactive workshop entitled ‘At Ease with Music’ breaking down Classical Music through live performance, imagery and audience interaction. Through this workshop and piano recitals he hopes to encourage a new generation of listeners and performers.
Following the workshops, Ludwig recorded a double CD for the book Living Echoes – The First 150 Years of Piano Music from New Zealand Selected and edited by Gillian Bibby.
Ludwig’s schedule for 2014 consists of recitals throughout the country including the Hutt Valley and Wellington Chamber Series. In addition he will be joining Operatunity on a national tour to perform ‘Christmas at the Proms’ throughout November-December.
