Emmanuel Fonoti-Fuimaono

 

 Born and raised in Hastings, Emmanuel Fonoti-Fuimaono is a hopeful tenor who has big dreams for the stages around world. Fonoti-Fuimaono is currently studying at Waikato University for a BMus in Classical Performance under the tutelage of vocal specialist-Stephanie Acraman.

Fonoti-Fuimaono has also been a part of a youth initiative (based in Hawkes Bay) called Project Prima Volta (PPV), a music programme that helps young teens grow through classical music and learn from high calibre teachers like Anna Pierard (founder) and Jose Aparicio. Emmanuel was learning Jazz guitar under the tutelage of guitar virtuoso- Justin Lindsay before being introduced to classical music in his 2nd year of highschool.

"... I was not a fan of classical music even when I was introduced to the art. But it gradually became something that I have a strong passion for... It has also brought my family closer than ever."

Some of Emmanuel's accomplishments include playing the lead role of Goro, the marriage-broker in Festival Opera's Madama Butterfly featuring Adler Fellows Pene Pati and Toni Marie Palmertree, The Sorcerer in Project Prima Volta's edition of Dido and Aeneas in 2016, the toy vendor Parpignol in La Boheme in 2015, and has been a regular chorus member in previous operas. Fonoti-Fuimaono has performed at numerous functions in the Hawkes Bay with his brothers and fellow friends and has gained recognition among the Hawkes Bay communities. 

He was also recently selected for a few concerts for the Dame Malvina Major Foundation alongside NZ singers Tavis Gravatt and Sophie Sparrow, has just recently been accepted into the New Zealand Opera School (Class of 2019) starting in January, and is contracted to play the role of Gastone in Festival Opera's La Traviata in February 2019. 

Emmanuel wishes to study abroad to learn more about his voice, life and identity and some how become an effect to inspire youth of all cultures to tap into the beautiful art of Classical Music.
